Tema Microlight Crash: Families Set Burial for Victims on March 28

Tema, March 25, – The families of the two victims of last week’s microlight aircraft crash in Tema have announced that final burial rites will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

The deceased, Captain Frank Amoanyi Donkor and Elijah Ofori Donkor, one of whom was piloting the aircraft, lost their lives when their microlight crashed at Tema Community One, Site 18, following a suspected engine malfunction.

Relatives, including Apostle Martin Larbi (rtd.) and Reverend Philip Nkunim Newton, briefed stakeholders at a meeting convened by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) about the arrangements. Apostle Larbi disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama has granted the family permission to conduct the final ceremony at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra.

The victims had been traveling from Ho to Accra after the pilot attended a meeting, accompanied by his brother. The family only became aware of the involvement of their relatives after receiving news of the crash early Tuesday.

“The initial reports were shocking, and we prayed for all those affected, not knowing that our family members were among the victims,” Apostle Larbi said.

With the parents away at the time of the crash, extended family members managed the immediate aftermath until their return the following Friday. The family expressed gratitude to Madam Ebi Bright, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, the military, police, Ghana National Fire Service, aviation authorities, and investigators for their swift response and support.

Reverend Newton added that the family visited the local school to coordinate with authorities and ensure that school operations were not disrupted by the crash aftermath.
