SSNIT Assets Grow Strongly, Director-General Reassures Contributors

Takoradi, March 26, – The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr Kwesi Afreh Biney, has assured Ghanaian workers that the Trust remains financially strong, recording over 25 per cent growth in assets under management in 2025.

He said SSNIT’s assets rose to more than GH¢25 billion in 2025, up from GH¢20.4 billion in 2024, while returns on investments improved significantly from a negative 4.2 per cent in 2024 to a positive 8.03 per cent in 2025.

“Clearly, our Trust is in a better place, and is growing strong and doing well, and we are confident of maintaining that growth trajectory,” Mr Biney said.

He gave the assurance at a regional forum organised by SSNIT in collaboration with the Trades Union Congress (TUC Ghana) in Takoradi.

The forum formed part of a nationwide engagement aimed at sensitising workers on pension benefits, addressing misconceptions and gathering feedback to improve service delivery.

Held under the theme, “Empowered Unions, Secure Futures: Deepening Pension Literacy Across Ghana,” the programme also sought to deepen understanding of the Tier One Pension Scheme.

Mr Biney attributed the Trust’s performance to prudent asset management and enhanced accountability, noting that many of its investments, including those on the stock exchange, appreciated by about GH¢2.5 billion in 2025.

He said dividends from stock exchange investments alone exceeded GH¢300 million, adding that the Trust would continue to prioritise sustainability and long-term growth.

Touching on SSNIT’s investments in the hospitality sector, Mr Biney assured that the Trust had no plans to divest its hotel assets, but would rather strengthen their operations to improve profitability.

He also commended the Government for consistently paying workers’ contributions from 2025 to January 2026, expressing confidence in the continuation of the trend.

Dr Kwabena Nyarko Otoo, Deputy Secretary-General of the TUC, commended SSNIT for the engagement, saying it provided an opportunity for workers to seek clarity on pension-related issues.
