Police deployed to restore peace in Gbiniyiri after violent clashes

Accra, March 13, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has dispatched a specialized police team to Gbiniyiri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, Savannah Region, in response to a series of reprisal attacks in the area.

Reports indicate that recent confrontations between the Brifo and Fulani communities have resulted in at least five deaths, with multiple others, including a child, suffering gunshot injuries.

A statement shared with the press indicated that the deployed unit, comprising intelligence and investigative officers, is working alongside the Regional Command to enhance security and apprehend the attackers.

Authorities said calm has been restored in the community, while operations continue to identify and arrest those responsible for the violence.

The unrest is believed to have been triggered as reprisal attacks following a robbery incident reportedly involving unknown assailants.

Earlier reports had cited two deaths and two injuries, but further verification with hospital officials and community leaders suggests that the number of casualties may be higher.
