Okada-riding gang attacks NADMO national director and family

Ho, March 04,– A group of motorbike-riding assailants attacked the Director of Engineering and Mechanicals at the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), along with his family, over the weekend, leaving the victim hospitalized.

The incident occurred when Mr. Moses Ahiakpornu, who was attending his late father’s funeral in Kpedome near Xevi, Akatsi North District, went out on Saturday to buy medicine for his sick son. He and his family—including his Cameroonian wife, Swiss sister-in-law, and two sons—were confronted and assaulted by the gang.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Mr. Ahiakpornu told the Ghana News Agency that the thugs had parked their motorcycles in the middle of the main Ho–Aflao road under construction, blocking traffic, including heavy trucks. He had signaled them to move their bikes, which angered the gang leader, known only as Kwashie.

Mr. Ahiakpornu said Kwashie had previously threatened him on Friday, alleging a past grievance, and vowed to exact revenge. After returning from the chemist, the gang reportedly followed him home, issuing threats including death.

He attempted to seek refuge at a nearby police post, but claimed he did not receive timely assistance. The assailants reportedly attacked the occupants of his vehicle, beating his sons into unconsciousness using blows, stones, and clubs, before fleeing the scene.

The family, seeking urgent medical care, had to be transferred from Mr. Ahiakpornu’s car to a commercial vehicle under instructions from the Akatsi Police Commander, who reportedly prioritized taking a statement over immediate medical attention.

Currently, Mr. Ahiakpornu, who is partially paralyzed, was first admitted to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Dzodze and later transferred to 37 Military Hospital for urgent treatment.

Mr. Paschal Agbagbah, Volta Regional NADMO Director, confirmed the assault and stated that the suspects had been arrested and later granted bail while police investigations continue.

Attempts by GNA to reach the Akatsi Police Commander for comment were unsuccessful.
