Morocco Crowned 2025 AFCON Champions After CAF Appeal

Accra, March 18,  – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board has awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title to Morocco following a ruling that Senegal forfeited the final.

CAF’s Appeal Panel, citing Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations, determined that Senegal’s conduct in the championship match constituted a breach warranting forfeiture. This decision overturns the earlier ruling by the CAF Disciplinary Board.

“The appeal filed by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) is upheld,” CAF stated, confirming Morocco as the champions with a 3–0 victory recorded for the final.

The ruling also addressed disciplinary matters linked to the match. Morocco midfielder Ismaël Saibari was found guilty of misconduct under Articles 82 and 83(1) of CAF’s Disciplinary Code. His two-match ban was partially suspended, and a previously imposed $100,000 fine was revoked.

CAF held the Moroccan federation accountable for the actions of ball boys during the match, reducing an earlier fine to $50,000, while a separate $100,000 penalty for VAR interference was maintained. Additionally, the fine for the use of lasers during the match was lowered to $10,000.

The decision concludes a lengthy appeals process and officially recognises Morocco as the 2025 AFCON champions.
