Accra, Feb. 27, – NPP Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin demanded government recognize former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the originator of the "Gold for Reserves" programme.
“Give to Bawumia what belongs to Bawumia. Bawumia that you attacked was the brainchild behind the Gold Reserves,” the Effutu MP said, responding to President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday.
The policy aims to lift Ghana’s external reserves to 15 months of import cover by 2028 using gold.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin slammed the administration for slogans over substance after a year in power. He called for youth job focus amid tariff hikes, warned of a security recruitment scandal, and demanded action on illegal mining (galamsey).
(Article 67, 1992 Constitution mandates SONA at each parliamentary session start.)
