MHA Highlights Hidden Psychological Impact of Tema Aircraft Crash

Tema, March 24,  – The Mental Health Authority (MHA) has cautioned that the recent light aircraft crash at Site 18, Tema, could leave lasting psychological effects if victims and witnesses do not seek timely professional support.

Speaking at a stakeholder meeting hosted by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Mr. Obeng Asomaning Williams, Head of Human Resources at MHA, stressed that although physical debris is being cleared, the “invisible scars” on survivors’ minds remain a pressing concern.

He explained that mental health support is vital in post-disaster recovery, pointing out a gap in emergency response. Unlike the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), which distributes relief items such as food and bedding, MHA focuses on managing fear, anxiety, and trauma to help people regain normalcy.

“Our mission is to address the mental and emotional weight carried by affected persons, ensuring they can resume daily life safely,” Mr. Williams said.

He also urged the public to make use of mental health units in hospitals across the country and emphasized that early intervention is key to preventing long-term psychological consequences.
