Accra, March 9, – League leaders Medeama SC suffered a 2-1 home defeat to relegation-threatened Hohoe United FC as the race for the 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League title intensified over the weekend.
The defeat ended Medeama’s unbeaten home run, though they maintained their position at the top of the table with 46 points after 25 matches.
Medeama took the lead early in the second half through Kelvin Obeng, but defender Fatawu Sulemana inadvertently turned the ball into his own net minutes later to level the score. Goalkeeper Felix Kyei missed a penalty that could have restored the hosts’ advantage before Hohoe United capitalised on a defensive lapse to net the winning goal.
Second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars FC also dropped points after suffering a 3-1 defeat away to Young Apostles FC, leaving the top of the table tightly contested with nine matches remaining.
Aduana FC ended a four-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over bottom side Techiman Eleven Wonders in Dormaa. Patrick Mensah opened the scoring in the 63rd minute before Richard Yeboah sealed the win with a long-range strike.
At the University of Ghana Stadium, Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw by Basake Holy Stars despite playing the final minutes with 10 men after Kelvin Osei Asibey was sent off in the 65th minute. Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare produced several saves to secure a point for Hearts, who remain third, five points behind Medeama.
Heart of Lions climbed to 10th place following a 1-0 victory over Swedru All Blacks FC in Kpando, with Michael Ephson scoring from a 33rd-minute free-kick to end a three-match winless run. The defeat pushed Swedru All Blacks into the relegation zone.
Karela United FC edged Asante Kotoko SC 1-0 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium through Malik Abubakar’s 41st-minute strike. Kotoko’s chances diminished after Henry Ansu was sent off, while goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu made key saves to secure the win. The victory lifted Karela to sixth, just above Kotoko in the standings.
