Accra, March 7, – The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly has dismissed viral social media reports alleging that land near the Osu Cemetery has been converted into a refuse dump, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The Assembly, through its Public Affairs Unit, stated that the video circulating online misrepresented the situation on the ground. Officials clarified that the location featured is a temporary waste transfer point, where refuse from mini trucks is offloaded into municipal skip containers before being transported to a designated landfill site.
“The Assembly wishes to unequivocally state that the claim is false, misleading, and does not reflect the true situation on the ground,” the statement said, urging residents to disregard the video and refrain from spreading unverified information.
KoKMA explained that operational delays at the landfill site had occasionally caused waste to accumulate at the transfer point, which may have created the impression of a dumping ground in the viral video. The facility, inherited from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, is being upgraded as part of broader sanitation reforms to meet improved environmental and operational standards.
The Assembly further reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment through 24-hour sanitation, decongestion, and security patrols. It encouraged the public to rely on official communications for accurate information.
