Joint Military-Police Operation Arrests 24 Over renewed Sampa Chieftaincy Clashes


Sunyani (Bono), March 23, – A joint Military-Police operation has resulted in the arrest of 24 suspects, including minors, in connection with the renewed Sampa chieftaincy clashes in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region.

The suspects, whose ages range from 13 to 78 years, are currently in police custody assisting investigations. Authorities confirmed that two of the suspects were specifically arrested for breaching curfew regulations imposed in the area.

According to a statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the Police, the operation—conducted in collaboration with the Third Infantry Battalion and the National Bureau of Intelligence—led to the retrieval of a significant cache of weapons and related items.

Weapons and Items Retrieved

Security personnel recovered:

  • Eight assorted firearms, including pump-action guns, a Baikal gun, and locally manufactured weapons
  • 790 rounds of AAA & BB cartridges and additional ammunition
  • 21 machetes, four bayonets, five clubs, and six knives
  • Military gear, including boots, jackets, and body armour
  • Mobile phones and electronics, including keypad and smartphones
  • Eight motorbikes and various tools
  • An official stamp bearing the inscription “Nana Samgba Gyafla II”
  • Quantities of talisman and other items

The Police indicated that the suspects would be processed for prosecution, while investigations continue to identify other persons connected to the disturbances.

The Command appealed to the public to volunteer credible information on individuals in possession of illegal weapons, assuring residents of continued efforts to restore peace and ensure security in the region.
