GoldBod denies claims of inflated laptop prices and sole-sourced renovation works

Accra, March 14, – The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging inflated laptop procurement costs and a sole-sourced office renovation contract.

In a statement issued by Mr Prince Kwame Minka, Media Relations Officer of GoldBod, the Board clarified that the claims were untrue and intended to mislead the public.

The statement addressed a specific allegation that “GoldBod awarded a GH¢11 million office renovation contract to a company owned by Mr Stan Dogbe through sole sourcing.”

According to GoldBod, following its establishment in April 2025, the corporation conducted a comprehensive recruitment drive to expand the workforce inherited from the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), bringing on board over 300 staff.

A new organisational structure was introduced to accommodate additional directorates, departments, and units. “It therefore became necessary for the newly established GoldBod to relocate from the old PMMC offices at Diamond House to meet the spatial and operational requirements of the organisation,” the statement said.

To address this, the Board rented the former Bank of Ghana Head Office at No. 1 Thorpe Road, Accra, which had previously been deemed structurally inadequate. “In the spirit of modesty, GoldBod undertook renovation and refurbishment works to enhance the building’s integrity and suitability for operations,” the statement added.

GoldBod said that on May 26, 2025, it sought approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) to use the Restricted Tendering process for the renovations, which was granted on June 24, 2025. Copies of the request and PPA approval were attached to the statement.

Three companies were shortlisted for the tender, with Correca Ghana Limited emerging as the winning bidder. The Board described claims that the contract was awarded through sole sourcing as “mischievous” and “completely false.”

Correca Ghana Limited, GoldBod stated, successfully executed and completed the renovation in line with contractual obligations. In keeping with transparency, the Board published the contract on its official website on March 10, 2026, in accordance with Section 42(1)(c) of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

The statement urged the public to remain cautious of misinformation and “reject attempts by purveyors of fake news to create the impression of wrongdoing where none exists.”
