Accra, March 12, – The Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has announced that only 1,000 applicants will be recruited into the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) from more than 180,000 young people who applied in the recent recruitment exercise.
Speaking to the Parliamentary Press Corps at Parliament on Wednesday, the Minister explained that the limited intake was due to the Service’s infrastructure and logistical constraints.
He said: “Over 180,000 young men and women applied to join the Ghana Immigration Service. Yet, the total personnel of the Service, from the Comptroller-General to the last officer, stands at 18,300, less than 20,000, while the demand to join is overwhelming.”
Alhaji Muntaka highlighted that the GIS training and accommodation facilities could only accommodate approximately 1,000 recruits in the current exercise.
“Unfortunately, because of the physical space limitations, we could only admit this number,” he added.
