Ghana Gas rolls out free NHIS registration for 20,000 residents in Western Region

Atuabo (W/R), March 12, – Madam Judith Adjoba Blay, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Limited Company (GNGLC), has launched a free registration and renewal exercise for 20,000 residents under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) within the company’s operational communities in the Western Region.

The one-month programme will benefit residents in 78 communities across eight districts: Ellembelle, Jomoro, Nzema-East, Ahanta-West, Mpohor, Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), and Shama.

The initiative, which is the fourth of its kind since the establishment of Ghana Gas, is being held under the theme “Your Health, Our Priority.”

Mr Henry Anlimah, Assistant Manager at the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department of Ghana Gas, said the first day of the exercise would cover residents of Atuabo, Ekabaku and Nsein, located in the Ellembelle, Jomoro and Nzema-East districts respectively.

He explained that from 2014 to 2024, Ghana Gas facilitated free NHIS registration for about 25,000 people, enabling beneficiaries to access health services.

“Under the leadership of the new CEO, Madam Adjoba-Blay, the company has decided to register 20,000 beneficiaries within a year,” Mr Anlimah stated.

He said the initiative reflected Ghana Gas’ commitment as a responsible corporate entity to improving the health and well-being of communities within its catchment areas.

According to him, the programme would enable residents in project-affected communities to maintain good health and benefit from the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Mr Anlimah assured residents that Ghana Gas remained committed to supporting development in the Western Region and would soon implement additional infrastructure projects in health, education and sanitation.

He encouraged community members to take advantage of the exercise, noting that primary health care remained essential and the company was determined to support them.

Some beneficiaries who spoke to journalists at Ekabaku near Atuabo said they previously had to travel long distances to Half-Assini in the Jomoro District or Nkroful in the Ellembelle District to register or renew their NHIS cards.

They expressed gratitude to Ghana Gas for bringing the registration exercise closer to their communities, saying it would make it easier for them to access healthcare services.
