Accra, March 13, – An Adabraka District Court has remanded Michael Xorlali Alortusah, a 25-year-old fetish priest and herbalist, in connection with the death of a 40-year-old trader.
The court did not take the plea of the accused and ordered him to reappear on March 25, 2026, while investigations continue.
Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police Issah Achiburi told the court that the accused operates as a fetish priest and herbalist at Awutu Bentum near Jei Krodua.
He is alleged to have murdered Joyce Akua Ampomaa, a trader from Akweiley, Kasoa.
According to the prosecution, the deceased had earlier sought herbal treatment from the suspect in 2025 for a leg condition.
On March 4, 2026, she reportedly visited him again seeking spiritual assistance to protect her business.
After performing spiritual consultations, the suspect allegedly asked the deceased to accompany him to his farm to collect herbs.
However, while on the way, he reportedly attacked her with a cutlass, severed her head and legs, concealed the body in the bush, and carried away the severed parts.
ASP Achiburi said community members discovered the body near the suspect’s farm on March 10, 2026, and reported the matter to the Jei Krodua Police Station.
Police subsequently retrieved the body and transported it to the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The suspect was later arrested and allegedly admitted the offence during interrogation before being arraigned before the court.
Police said efforts were ongoing to retrieve the missing body parts, while investigations continue.
