Accra, March 16, – Klottey-Korle MP Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has called for affordable food services in large corporate and public institutions including hospitals, banks, ministries, and private-sector establishments to boost worker productivity and welfare.
Parliamentary Statement
Presenting a statement on Monday, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings highlighted workers' struggles accessing affordable meals during office hours. "Deliberately including affordable food services in institutional designs reduces pressure on unauthorized vending spaces," she explained.
Regulatory Proposal
She urged the Ministry of Works and Housing, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Metropolitan/Municipal Assemblies to mandate cafeterias or food courts as conditions for planning approvals of major developments. Such measures would enhance efficiency and eliminate vending congestion.
Cross-Party Support
Weija-Gbawe MP Mr. Jerry Shaib Ahmed (NPP) endorsed the proposal: "Eatery centres in ministries and corporate institutions promote health and productivity."
Bia East MP Mr. Richard Acheampong (NDC) called for Parliament's dormant canteen—out of service for over a decade—to be revived for MPs' convenience.
