Calls for Stronger Action Against Child Defilement and Incest in Volta Region

Kpotame, Volta Region, March 24, — Rising incidents of defilement and incest in the Volta Region have prompted Ms. Celestine Adzah, CEO of the Celestines Foundation, to urge coordinated action from government bodies, civil society, community leaders, parents, educators, and the media.

Ms. Adzah described the issue as a serious societal challenge that threatens the safety and well-being of children. She called for preventive strategies, awareness campaigns, and robust reporting mechanisms, while ensuring survivors receive support and protection.

She further stressed the importance of legal accountability, asking families not to shield offenders and encouraging parents to educate children about consent, personal safety, and their rights.

Recent reports from Tongu indicate several young girls have been defiled, including some cases of incest, underscoring the urgency of multi-sectoral interventions. Ms. Adzah emphasized that community vigilance, public education, and cross-sector collaboration are essential to safeguarding children.
