AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine Enhances Water Supply in Three Communities

Sampsonkrom (Ash), March 26, – Residents of Sampsonkrom, Ewiase, and New Nsuta–Emuye are set to benefit from improved access to safe drinking water following the completion of a major water infrastructure project by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.

The initiative, part of the Mine’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP), underscores its commitment to sustainable development, community welfare, and inclusive governance.

Implemented by Watersan Engineers Limited, the project entailed geophysical surveys, borehole drilling, construction of water wells, and the mechanisation of systems to provide a dependable groundwater supply.

Each community now has modern water facilities, including mechanised boreholes, submersible pumps, elevated tank stands, 40,000-litre storage tanks, and a distribution network feeding five strategically located standpipes.

The systems use a pump-and-store method, pumping water into elevated tanks and distributing it by gravity, ensuring consistent pressure and continuous service for households.

This project builds on similar interventions completed in 2025 in Diawuosu, Kokoteasua, and Sanso, reinforcing the Mine’s sustained effort to expand access to potable water across its host communities.

The handover ceremonies coincided with World Water Day 2026 celebrations, themed “Where Water Flows, Equality Grows,” with officials formally commissioning the new facilities.

As part of the observance, the Mine also convened a World Water Day conference that brought together stakeholders in water resource management to discuss strategies for efficient and sustainable water use.

Mr George Owusu Ansah, Director of Environment, stressed the importance of collaboration among government, traditional authorities, industry, and community members to safeguard water resources.

In addition, awards were presented to pupils of Apitikooko School who excelled in a World Water Day essay competition, highlighting the active role of youth in promoting water conservation.
