Agbodza Defends Big Push, Sole Sourcing at 44%

Accra, March 24,  – Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Roads and Highways Minister, has defended the government's Big Push infrastructure programme, revealing that only 44 per cent of major contracts were awarded through sole sourcing.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, Mr. Agbodza stressed that procurement procedures complied with legal requirements, with over 400 contracts awarded through open competitive bidding.

"Mr. Speaker, given the scale and significance of these projects, a combination of procurement methods was employed in accordance with the law," he stated.

He added that all Big Push projects had been published on the ministry’s website, countering allegations of any scandal or malpractice.

The Minister’s statement came in response to claims by The Fourth Estate regarding widespread sole sourcing and possible cost inflation, including 81 contracts worth over GH¢73 billion within seven months.

Mr. Agbodza explained that sole sourcing was justified for urgent projects and highlighted that the current administration had inherited a backlog of abandoned contracts.
