Zabarma Chief urges Muslims to uphold discipline and spirituality during Ramadan

Denu (V/R), Feb. 16, – Alhaji Ahmed Zumari, Chairman of the Volta Regional Council of Zabarma Chiefs, has encouraged Muslims to approach the holy month of Ramadan with renewed commitment to holiness, discipline and obedience to the teachings of the Holy Quran.

In a message to mark the commencement of the fasting period, he described Ramadan as a sacred time dedicated to spiritual renewal, self-control and drawing closer to Allah.

Alhaji Zumari reminded the faithful that Ramadan, observed in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is one of the five pillars of Islam and therefore mandatory for every able-bodied Muslim.

He explained that the fast, which begins at dawn and ends at sunset each day, requires abstinence from food, drink, marital relations and all forms of misconduct. The period itself is determined by the sighting of the new moon.

Citing Chapter 2, Verse 183 of the Holy Quran, he noted that fasting was ordained to help believers attain piety and heightened consciousness of Allah.

While stressing the obligation of fasting, the Zabarma Chief acknowledged that Islam provides exemptions for individuals whose age, health conditions or other legitimate circumstances prevent them from observing the fast.

He urged Muslims to use the period for deep self-examination, spiritual growth and the cultivation of good character. He also called on them to intensify prayers, recitation of the Quran and acts of charity, while avoiding actions that could diminish the sanctity of the month.

Alhaji Zumari further underscored the social value of Ramadan, saying the shared experience of fasting and communal prayers fostered unity, compassion and solidarity within families and communities.

He appealed to Muslims in the Volta Region and across the nation to dedicate the season to prayers for peace, unity and the continued development of the country.
