Accra, Feb. 16, – The Management of the State Housing Company Limited (SHC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, has issued a final public notice to individuals and groups unlawfully occupying portions of its lands and properties nationwide.
The directive follows a recent nationwide land audit conducted by the Company, which uncovered widespread cases of unauthorized occupation, development and sale of SHC lands in several parts of the country.
According to a statement released by SHC’s Public Relations Department and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday, the illegal activities are undermining the Company’s core mandate of delivering quality and affordable housing to Ghanaians.
The notice directs all persons, entities and developers who are occupying, selling, leasing or laying claim to any SHC property without valid and verifiable documentation from the Company to immediately cease such activities.
The statement reminded the public that state lands are protected under the laws of Ghana, particularly the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036), which outlines procedures for the management, protection and recovery of public lands. It stressed that unauthorized occupation constitutes both a civil and criminal offence.
SHC further instructed all individuals currently in unlawful occupation to halt development works without delay and report to any SHC office within 21 days of the notice for verification and possible regularisation, where applicable. Affected persons may submit formal applications for regularisation, subject to the Company’s planning and zoning requirements.
The Company cautioned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would result in decisive enforcement actions. These may include legal proceedings, demolition of illegal structures, repossession of lands and collaboration with state security agencies and other relevant authorities to enforce the law.
SHC also advised the public to undertake thorough due diligence in all land and property transactions and to verify documentation directly with the Company. It disclaimed responsibility for any losses arising from dealings with unauthorized individuals.
The notice, the statement said, is aimed at safeguarding state assets, promoting orderly development and upholding the rule of law.
