Cape Coast, Feb. 25, – Police in the Central Region have taken into custody three students of the Swedru School of Business in connection with a widely circulated video showing the assault of a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School during a recent inter-school sporting activity.
The suspects – Joseph Amoh, 20, Benedict Appiah, 18, and Bilal Mamud, 18 – were handed over to the Swedru Divisional Police Command by school authorities on Monday night. They are expected to be put before court.
Their arrest followed a 24-hour directive issued by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Lydia Yaako Donkor, during a meeting with school authorities over the incident.
At about 2100 hours that same day, management of SWESBUS presented the three students to the police to assist with investigations.
In an update on Tuesday, the Central Regional Police Command condemned the act of violence captured in the viral footage and cautioned students and the general public against engaging in similar conduct.
Meanwhile, four other students who sustained injuries during the clash have been treated and discharged from the Agona Municipal Hospital and the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, according to Mr Bismark Offei, Agona West Municipal Director of Education.
He added that one critically injured student had been referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further medical care.
