Tema, Feb. 18, – The Tema Regional Police Command has seized 3,009 slabs of suspected cannabis following an intelligence-driven operation at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region.
A statement issued by the Command and signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, said the operation was carried out in the early hours of February 15, 2026.
According to the statement, at about 00:10 hours, officers from the Regional Patrols Unit intercepted a Sinotruck tipper truck bearing registration number GN 993-14. The vehicle, which had been loaded with fertiliser sacks, was found to be concealing 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs, believed to be cannabis.
Police said the driver fled the scene immediately upon spotting the officers, abandoning the vehicle and its contents. The truck has since been impounded at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters as investigations continue. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the driver and establish ownership of the vehicle.
In a related development, the Command disclosed that on February 16, 2026, at about 19:10 hours, two individuals — Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35 — were arrested at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Office in Tema.
The two suspects allegedly attempted to bribe police officers with GH₵150,000.00 in a bid to influence the unlawful release of the seized truck and the suspected narcotic substances.
The statement noted that the cash amount has been retrieved and secured as an exhibit. The suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations and are scheduled to be arraigned before court on February 18, 2026.
The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to clamp down on narcotics trafficking and uphold professionalism and integrity in the execution of its mandate.
