Teen granted bail over alleged assault at Ridge Hospital

Accra, Feb. 23, – An 18-year-old man has been granted bail by the Adabraka District Court after pleading not guilty to a charge of assault involving a security officer at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital.

Gabriel Nii Offei Dimson, unemployed and resident at Osu, is accused of attacking Noah Foli, a security guard on duty at the health facility.

The court admitted the accused to bail in the sum of GH¢20,000 with two sureties and adjourned proceedings to April 15, 2026.

Presenting the facts, Inspector Sandra Amakye told the court that the incident occurred on February 18 at about 1700 hours when Dimson visited the hospital’s Maternity Ward, where his wife had reportedly gone to deliver.

According to the prosecution, the accused positioned himself at a restricted section of the hospital premises. The complainant approached him and asked him to relocate to an approved waiting area since visitors were not permitted at that location.

Although Dimson initially complied, he allegedly returned shortly afterwards to the same spot.

The prosecution said when the security officer attempted to enforce the directive again, a confrontation followed, during which the accused allegedly struck the officer, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.

Dimson was subsequently arrested for investigations.

The complainant was rushed to the hospital’s Emergency Ward and is said to be responding to treatment.
