Police retrieve over 7,000 parcels of suspected cannabis after Jasikan court order

Dambai (O/R), Feb. 25, – The Nkwanta South Divisional Police Command has retrieved more than 7,000 parcels of suspected cannabis following an order by the Jasikan Circuit Court.

The action forms part of intensified operations in the Oti Region to curb drug trafficking and related crimes.

Chief Superintendent Michael Kwabena Aseidu, Nkwanta South Divisional Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that personnel stationed at the Bonakye barrier on the Eastern Corridor Road intercepted a Volvo truck with registration number GC 3522-09 on December 29, 2025.

According to him, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly attempted to obstruct a search and offered a bribe to officers but fled when their efforts proved unsuccessful.

A warrant was subsequently obtained from the Jasikan Circuit Court to conduct a formal search of the vehicle. The exercise was carried out in the presence of personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the narcotics control unit, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ambulance Service, the military and other security agencies.

Officers discovered several bales and sacks suspected to contain Indian hemp, with the contents estimated at over 7,000 parcels.

Madam Jeffen Siberi, Oti Regional Narcotics Control Commander, disclosed that the consignment, based on prevailing market value, could exceed GH¢14 million. She expressed concern about increasing marijuana use in parts of the region and stressed the need for continued collaboration among security agencies to address the threat.
