Accra, Feb. 23, – The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title race grew more intense after Matchday 23, as Asante Kotoko SC returned to winning form while leaders Medeama SC dropped points.
Kotoko ended a three-game winless run with a disciplined 2-0 victory over Young Apostles FC. Early strikes from Johnson Oppong Owusu and skipper Samba O’Neil ensured the Porcupine Warriors stayed firmly in the chase for a top-four finish.
At the summit, Medeama were frustrated in a goalless stalemate against FC Samartex 1996 at the Nsenkyire Arena. The defending leaders now sit on 45 points, just three ahead of their closest challengers, with 11 matches remaining.
Bibiani Gold Stars FC capitalised on Medeama’s slip, rallying from behind to beat Heart of Lions FC 2-1. After Seedorf Asante’s opener for Lions, Samuel Attah Kumi restored parity before a dramatic stoppage-time winner sealed all three points for Gold Stars.
Elsewhere, Accra Hearts of Oak were unable to sustain momentum from their recent Super Clash triumph, settling for a 0-0 draw against Berekum Chelsea FC. The result leaves the Phobians five points off the pace.
In mid-table action, Karela United FC continued their impressive run with a third straight victory, defeating Eleven Wonders FC 2-0 to climb to seventh.
Vision FC and Bechem United FC produced the weekend’s most entertaining encounter, with Vision edging a five-goal thriller 3-2.
Relegation-threatened Hohoe United FC earned a valuable point in a goalless draw against Aduana FC, while Basake Holy Stars FC strengthened their survival hopes with a narrow 1-0 win over Swedru All Blacks FC.
At the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Dreams FC salvaged a late draw against Nations FC, cancelling out an earlier deficit to finish 1-1.
With just 11 rounds to go, the battle at both ends of the table promises heightened drama in the weeks ahead.
