Court remands two SWESBUS students over assault during inter-school games

Agona Swedru (C/R), Feb. 25,  – Two final-year students of the Swedru School of Business have been remanded into prison custody for two weeks by the Agona Swedru Magistrate Court for their alleged involvement in the assault of a student from Awutu Obrachire Senior High School.

The alleged attack occurred on February 19, 2026, during an inter-school sporting event hosted by SWESBUS. A widely circulated video of the incident sparked public outrage and prompted swift police action.

The accused, Benedict Appiah and Bilal Mamid, both 18, appeared before the court but their pleas were deferred. They face charges of conspiracy and assault and are expected to reappear on March 11, 2026.

A third student, Joseph Aidoo, was discharged after pleading for leniency.

Presenting the facts, Inspector Cosmos Afadzie told the court, presided over by Mr Victor Kusi, that the two accused were captured in the viral footage allegedly attacking the victim.

The prosecutor said the video drew the attention of the CID Director-General, Lydia Yaako Donkor, who visited the school and directed its headmaster, Mr Kojo Frempong, to ensure that those involved were handed over to the police.

Following that directive, three students were presented to the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command on February 24, 2026, to assist with investigations.
