Sunyani (Bono Region), Feb 18, – An intelligence-led operation by Bono Regional Police has resulted in the neutralisation of one suspected armed robber during a pre-dawn exchange of gunfire on the Dormaa-Gonokrom highway, foiling a planned ambush on traders.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Joshua Coppson, Bono Regional Police Commander, disclosed at a Sunyani news conference that the incident unfolded between February 11-12, 2026, after surveillance teams intercepted credible tips of a gang mobilising to target market women on the busy commercial corridor.
"Suspects hiding in bushes opened fire on advancing officers near a parked Honda motorbike," DCOP Coppson explained. "Police returned fire professionally." A dawn search discovered the deceased robber beside an AK-47 rifle—traced to a January 12, 2025, ambush on a police-escorted convoy from Buipe to Sunyani between Buoko and Ayegbe.
