Bagbin Demands Emergency Care Law to End Hospital "No-Bed" Crisis

Accra, Feb. 24, – Parliament Speaker Alban Bagbin has tasked lawmakers with drafting an emergency care law to combat Ghana's chronic hospital bed shortages, triggered by the tragic death of hit-and-run victim Charles Amissah.

Speaking on the floor Tuesday, Mr. Bagbin labelled Amissah's case "one of the needless deaths we have experienced," directing the Health Committee to probe reports from relevant agencies within two weeks.

"We need to pass an emergency care law to prevent similar deaths from delays or denial of urgent medical attention," he urged the House.

The 29-year-old engineer's death on February 6 followed a hit-and-run incident where three major hospitals allegedly refused him treatment due to lack of beds. Public fury has intensified calls for reform, with the Health Minister summoned to Parliament.
