Afenyo-Markin Demands Hospital Heads Face Parliament Over Hit-and-Run Victim's Death

Accra, Feb. 24, – Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has demanded that heads of three major Greater Accra hospitals—Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Police Hospital, and Greater Accra Regional Hospital—appear before Parliament's Health Committee over the alleged denial of care to hit-and-run victim Charles Amissah.

The 29-year-old former Promasidor Ghana Limited engineer died on Friday, February 6, 2026, after the facilities reportedly refused him treatment.

"Mr. Speaker, this matter cannot be left unresolved. Any individual found culpable must be sanctioned as a deterrent," Afenyo-Markin stated during a formal parliamentary address on Tuesday.

The Effutu MP and New Patriotic Party leader called for duty rosters, bed occupancy records, and probes into possible breaches of the 2018 Ghana Health Service directive on emergency care. "If misconduct is established, sanctions must follow; if negligence is proven, prosecution must follow," he added.

He also urged police to exhaust all resources to apprehend the hit-and-run driver.
