Accra, Dec. 17, – Two individuals captured in a viral video abusing an 11-year-old girl have been arrested by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.
A Police update identified the suspects as 75-year-old Grace Mensah, the victim’s grandmother, and 25-year-old Godfred Osei Akoto.
The arrests were effected at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region. The child has since been rescued, and both suspects have been transferred to the Mampong Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigation.
According to the Police, the video was first detected on TikTok and other social media platforms, sparking widespread public concern and calls for intervention.
Initial findings revealed that the clip was originally uploaded by a user named Tina Adjei, with the TikTok handle @tina.adjei7.
The footage depicts a young man physically assaulting a girl in the presence of an elderly woman, later confirmed to be her grandmother.
Following the identification of the location, the team moved to Agona Jamasi and apprehended Grace Mensah, who admitted that she is the grandmother of the 11-year-old victim.
Subsequent inquiries resulted in the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto, identified as the perpetrator seen assaulting the child in the video.
In his statement, Osei Akoto claimed that on December 6, 2025, the victim, who resides with her grandmother, left home and failed to return. He said he located her around 0012 hours near the Presbyterian School.
He further alleged that the grandmother instructed him to discipline the girl, which led to the assault as well as the filming and circulation of the video.
According to the Police brief, this narration was confirmed by Grace Mensah during questioning.
