Accra, Dec. 15, – Hearing in the case involving Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been adjourned by an Accra High Court after the prosecution presented documents that were not clearly legible.
The Prosecution was due to begin the Case Management Conference (CMC); however, proceedings were disrupted in the absence of lead defence counsel, Mr Andy Appiah-Kubi.
Members of the defence team who were present raised objections to some of the documents intended to be tendered, arguing that they could not be properly read.
The Court therefore directed the Prosecution to submit clearer and legible versions of the affected documents.
The Prosecution also informed the Court that beyond the 19 exhibits already filed, it planned to rely on an additional 80 documents.
The case was adjourned to December 16, 2025.
Chairman Wontumi, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is facing trial for alleged illegal mining activities and for assigning mineral rights without the required ministerial authorisation at Samreboi in the Western Region in 2022.
He is standing trial together with Akonta Mining Limited, his company, while a co-director, Kwame Antwi, is currently at large.
The accused has pleaded not guilty and is on bail in the sum of GH¢15 million.
