Ho, Dec. 5, – President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the Volta Regional Office of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) in Ho, strengthening Ghana's security infrastructure.
The NSB provides integrated signal systems for national security and intelligence agencies. Its responsibilities encompass electronic and digital communications intelligence analysis, secure government networks, cyberspace protection, and support for preventing major crimes including kidnapping, fraud, and armed robbery.
During the inauguration, President Mahama stressed the facility's vital role in real-time monitoring, cybersecurity, border surveillance, and early warning systems to protect businesses under the 24-hour economy initiative.
He described the relatively young NSB as a technologically advanced, mission-oriented agency whose regional expansion supports local intelligence, community safety, and modern surveillance nationwide.
"Today's inauguration is not just a ceremony. It marks a decisive step in reinforcing the foundations of a modern, resilient, and data-driven national security system capable of anticipating threats," the President declared, commending the Volta Regional Minister and traditional leaders for their support.
The Volta center will lead Ghana's cyber and signals intelligence development, enhance counterterrorism, and establish the region as an ECOWAS training hub for African nations and international partners.
President Mahama announced major investments including 60,000 surveillance cameras, 500 new 4G/5G sites, AI-powered security communications, a new Accra cyber defense headquarters for NSB, and similar regional command centers nationwide.
These enhancements will foster security agency collaboration, safeguard digital and financial systems, and enable rapid threat response.
Praising NSB staff, he said: "Your often unseen but impactful work forms Ghana's security backbone. Your professionalism, discipline, and loyalty are commendable."
The President reaffirmed: "Security is the foundation of development, intelligence is the backbone of security, and NSB is central to building our competitive 24-hour economy."
