Ho (V/R), Dec. 5, – Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei, an 82-year-old farmer from the Kwahu Afram Plains South District, has been adjudged the 2025 National Best Farmer. Following his win, Opanyin Adusei used his platform to appeal to the government for urgent and expanded investment in irrigation infrastructure across Ghana.
Opanyin Adusei emphasized that areas like the Afram Plains hold immense agricultural potential but require reliable water supply to significantly contribute to national food security. He welcomed the Minister of Food and Agriculture’s assurance that irrigation development has been prioritized under the "Feed Ghana" programme as a positive step toward realizing the "Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, and Secure the Future" agenda.
He also commended the President’s commitment to constructing a bridge over the Afram River and rehabilitating road networks within the Afram Plains, stating these projects will boost agricultural productivity, stimulate the rural economy, and create jobs.
Award and Recognition
Opanyin Adusei, who cultivates cocoa, mango, 30 acres of cashew, and several other crops, received a GH¢1.2 million cash prize from ADB, a brand-new tractor from Sino Machinery, and various other packages.
Reflecting on his nearly 55-year career in agriculture, which began immediately after completing his studies at the University of Cape Coast in 1968, Opanyin Adusei dedicated the prestigious award to Ghana’s entire farming community.

He expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Ghana for preserving the tradition of honoring hardworking farmers and fishers, noting that this sustained commitment inspires hope across the country.

First Runner-Up: Mr. Osumanu Kadri, 48, from the Greater Accra Region.
Second Runner-Up: Mr. Charles Gyato, 63, from the Oti Region.
National Best Youth Farmer: Mr. Reuben Asare of Kintampo North District (Bono East Region).
National Best Female Farmer: Madam Grace Owusua of Asante Akyem North (Ashanti Region).
