Accra, Feb.08, - The President
Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has reiterated his government’s commitment to
revive colts football in Ghana at his 2nd State of the Nation Address (SONA) to
Parliament.
In his address, the President
noted that his “Government is constructing a number of football pitches in the
Zongo’s and across the rest of the country to aid in the revival of colts
football, which has been responsible for the production of many talents”, that
have helped raised the flag of Ghana high in Africa and the rest of the world.
According to President
Akufo-Addo, Government remains committed to the development of football in the
country and would help produce more football talents by constructing and
helping in Sports Development.
He noted that his Government
would “continue the process of passing the Legislative Instruments of the
National Youth and Sports Act, and pursue the enactment of the draft of the
National Sports College Bill, and create a Sports Fund to improve sports
development in the country”.
The Accra Sports Stadium, which
had not seen any major renovation work since 2008 was captured in the
president’s address saying “we have begun the rehabilitation of the Accra
Sports Stadium and in partnership with the Inner City and Zongo Development
Ministry and the Ghana Football Association".
It would be recalled that Ken
Ofori-Attah, Finance Minister in his 2018 budget presentation and economic
policy to parliament announced that government would continue the process of
setting up the National Sports Fund to aid the development of sports in the
country, which would be used to improve sports development.
