Accra, Jan.12, - Some Ghanaians
have commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for nominating Mr Martin
A.B.K. Amidu as the special prosecutor, in a survey conducted by the Ghana News
Agency on Friday.
President Akufo-Addo, on Thursday
nominated Mr Martin Amidu for the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Mr Amidu, a politician, was a
former Attorney General and Minister of Justice from January 2011 to January
2012.
Mr Christopher Opoku, a
businessman, told the GNA that he is hopeful Mr Amidu would perform his duty
diligently, adding that, he should not be biased in dealing with corruption
cases.
Miss Doreen Agyei, a student of
the University of Ghana, said the president had made a smart choice in choosing
Mr Amidu, “because I believe he would be bold to hold both the National
Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members accountable
and deal with all corrupt public officials if they fall foul of the law”.
Mr Innocent Ahadzie, a spare part
dealer, said Mr Amidu should take his time to investigate corrupt cases before
initiating prosecution, saying that, such a move would ensure peace and
stability in the country.
He said the majority in
Parliament should not interfere in the work of the special prosecutor but
rather help minimise corruption in the country.
Madam Patience Amissah, a trader,
said ‘’now that we have a special prosecutor I believe our monies would be
safe.’’
She said Mr Amidu, as well-known
anti-corruption campaigner and a strong critic of corrupt public officials,
should be allowed to do his work without any political interference.
