Accra, April 23, – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has paid a total of 43,120 US dollars to three of its personnel who sustained injuries while serving on separate United Nations peacekeeping missions.
The presentation was made at a brief ceremony held at the Command Mess at Burma Camp in Accra.
The beneficiaries included Warrant Officer Class Two Alfred Ocran, who received 30,030 dollars after being injured during deployment in Lebanon under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL GH 89).
Staff Sergeant Arddey Oblie Solomon, who sustained injuries in Mali while serving with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA GHANENGRCOY 10), received 6,160 dollars.
Sergeant Kornu Eric Romeo, who was wounded in South Sudan under the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA GH 1), was given 6,930 dollars.
Commodore Francis Nyarko, Director General of Human Resources at the General Headquarters, who presented the funds on behalf of the Military High Command, said the gesture reflected the military’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel.
He noted that the support symbolised national appreciation for the sacrifices made by troops in the line of duty.
“This intervention underscores our responsibility to care for our personnel who risk their lives on international assignments,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, WOII Ocran expressed gratitude to the High Command for the assistance, describing it as timely and reassuring.
He said the support would go a long way to ease the burden on them and their families.
