Accra, April 7, – The Upper West Regional Police Command has intercepted a taxi carrying 140 slabs of suspected narcotic substances and arrested two suspects in connection with the haul.
The suspects, identified as Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame, were onboard the vehicle when it was stopped during an intelligence-led operation, according to a police statement copied to the Ghana News Agency.
The Command said the interception forms part of intensified operations targeting drug trafficking and abuse across the region, which have led to multiple seizures over the past four weeks.
It indicated that recent coordinated patrols had uncovered suspected narcotics across several locations, including Eremon in the Lawra District, the Nadowli barrier, Loho in Nadowli-Kaleo, Charhe, Siriyiri, and Hamile in the Lambussie District.
Altogether, the operations yielded 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels and several other consignments of suspected Indian hemp.
In the latest incident on April 3, 2026, police stopped a Toyota Corolla taxi at Eremon, leading to the discovery of the 140 slabs.
In a separate operation on April 1, officers at the Wa–Loho barrier also intercepted a Royal VVIP bus carrying 51 compressed slabs, resulting in the arrest of three additional suspects.
The Command noted that in several cases, the substances were being transported northwards towards Hamile, a known transit route for drug movement.
It warned transport operators and unions against allowing their vehicles to be used for trafficking, adding that such vehicles risk forfeiture to the state alongside prosecution of owners.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations aimed at curbing drug-related crimes and ensuring public safety in the region.
