Accra, March 30, – Rans Logistics has refunded GH¢19.1 million to the state following allegations of overpayments and missing grains highlighted in the Auditor-General’s special report.
The audit, presented to Parliament on March 10, flagged the company for overpayments related to the transportation of rice and maize, as well as the disappearance of thousands of tonnes of grain.
Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Monday, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko welcomed the repayment, calling it a testament to the audit’s effectiveness in safeguarding public resources.
“Exactly a week after the audit findings were presented to Parliament, Rans Logistics has gone ahead to refund GH¢19.1 million to the state,” Mr. Ampem Nyarko said.
The audit also revealed that over 7,000 metric tons of rice were unaccounted for, and the Deputy Minister noted that the company is expected to reimburse the value of the missing rice.
He added that the Attorney General’s office is reviewing the report to recommend appropriate action for all identified infractions.
“The primary objective of the audit is to protect state resources, and this example shows it is already beginning to achieve its purpose,” Mr. Ampem Nyarko emphasised.
