MASLOC Expands Market Outreach as Volta Minister Backs Women’s Economic Empowerment Drive

Ho, April 9, – The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, has expressed strong support for the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), praising its renewed outreach programme aimed at improving access to credit for market women and small-scale entrepreneurs.

The commendation came when the Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Madam Abigail Yaa Mensah, led a delegation to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council as part of a familiarisation and engagement tour.

The initiative is designed to sensitise traders and small business operators on loan acquisition procedures, while also reinforcing the importance of repayment discipline to sustain the revolving fund system.

Mr Gunu described the programme as a practical intervention that aligns with government’s broader economic strategy, including the 24-hour economy policy aimed at boosting productivity and supporting livelihoods.

He noted that reforms being undertaken within MASLOC to improve transparency and operational efficiency would help rebuild public trust in the institution and strengthen its impact on grassroots economic development.

According to him, market women remain central to the local economy, and targeted financial support is essential to sustaining their businesses and expanding income opportunities.

He assured the MASLOC delegation of the Regional Coordinating Council’s full backing in rolling out the outreach programme across communities in the Volta Region.

Mr Gunu also referenced his previous role as District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, where similar credit interventions were implemented using Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to support market women alongside national schemes.

He stressed that such interventions have proven effective in boosting small-scale trade, improving household incomes, and reducing poverty at the community level.

For her part, Madam Abigail Yaa Mensah reaffirmed MASLOC’s commitment to widening financial inclusion, particularly among women and the youth.

She said the institution was also strengthening its monitoring systems to ensure accountability, responsible lending, and the long-term sustainability of its credit programmes.

The outreach forms part of MASLOC’s broader strategy to deepen engagement with beneficiaries and improve access to microfinance support across the country.
