Accra, April 15, – Government will, effective April 16, 2026, absorb part of the recent increases in petroleum product prices as a temporary measure to ease pressure on households, transport operators and businesses.
Under the intervention, government will absorb GH¢2.00 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 per litre on petrol.
A statement issued by the Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the one-month measure responds to global market volatility affecting fuel prices.
It said the initiative underscores the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration to protect livelihoods, stabilise prices and support economic recovery under challenging external conditions.
The statement reaffirmed government’s resolve to maintain price stability and cushion consumers as part of ongoing efforts to manage inflationary pressures and external shocks.
