Accra, April 13, 2026—The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Portuguese tactician, 73, is expected to lead Ghana’s preparations for the tournament scheduled to be staged in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Queiroz brings extensive international and World Cup experience, having previously guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 World Cup and leading Portugal to the knockout stage at the 2010 edition. He also managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
His coaching career includes spells with several national teams and top football programs, including Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, alongside club and technical roles at elite level.
The GFA indicated that Queiroz assumes duty immediately as Ghana intensifies preparations for the global showpiece, which begins in June 2026.
Ghana is scheduled to open its Group F campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, before facing England and Croatia in subsequent fixtures.
