Farmers urged to stay hopeful as gov’t tackles agricultural pressures – Asiedu Nketia

Welembelle (UWR), April 22, – National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has assured farmers in Welembelle and surrounding communities that ongoing challenges in the agriculture sector are temporary and being addressed through targeted government interventions.

He said issues such as high input costs and unstable prices for farm produce were part of transitional difficulties linked to current policy adjustments, and would soon ease as new measures take effect.

Speaking during a community engagement with farmers and traditional leaders, Mr Nketia urged farmers not to be discouraged ahead of the next farming season.

“We understand the pressures you are facing, but do not give up. Very soon, farming will become more rewarding as the interventions take shape,” he said.

He indicated that government was rolling out mechanisation centres across farming areas to improve access to affordable services and reduce production costs for farmers.

He added that efforts were also underway to improve the availability and pricing of agricultural inputs to support productivity and food security.

Traditional leaders at the meeting raised concerns about stalled development projects and campaign pledges, calling for swift action.

In response, Mr Nketia reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing all abandoned projects, noting that public resources already committed must be seen through to completion for community benefit.

He also called for unity among party members and stakeholders, stressing the need for stability ahead of internal political processes.

The Member of Parliament for Sissala East, Mr Issah Mohammed Bataklia, highlighted ongoing development efforts in the area, including road infrastructure expansion under the Big Push programme, as well as improvements in education and healthcare services.

Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Charles Lwanga Puizuing, encouraged residents, particularly the youth, to take advantage of agricultural initiatives such as Feed Ghana and related programmes aimed at boosting employment.

The engagement formed part of a wider outreach by party leadership to assess progress on development commitments and gather feedback from grassroots communities.
