Cape Coast, March 31, – A 40-year-old man has been granted GHC100,000 bail by the Cape Coast Circuit Court 1 after being charged with causing unlawful harm for allegedly assaulting a woman in a viral video that sparked outrage on social media.
The accused, Samuel Bills Acquah, pleaded not guilty when arraigned on Monday, March 30, 2026. The presiding judge, Mr Cephas Kwame Ayidzoa, ordered that he provide two sureties and directed him to return to court on Friday, April 10, 2026, for further proceedings.
Police reported that Acquah was apprehended on Friday, March 27, 2026, following a disturbing incident involving a 30-year-old woman with whom he shares a child. The altercation was captured on video and circulated widely, generating public concern about domestic violence in the area.
The footage reportedly shows the accused physically attacking the woman, dragging her to the ground and kicking her, causing significant injuries and loss of consciousness. Eyewitnesses alerted law enforcement around 21:30 hours, prompting an immediate police response and the arrest of Acquah at the scene.
Authorities said the case highlights the urgent need for heightened awareness and preventive measures against domestic abuse, and for victims to report incidents promptly to the police.
The court also imposed a bond of good conduct, warning that failure to comply would result in custodial consequences. The case has drawn attention from civil society groups advocating for stricter enforcement of laws protecting women and children.
