Asantehene Urges Timely Completion of KNUST Teaching Hospital

Kumasi, March 29, — The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on the government to strictly adhere to the timeline for completing the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Teaching Hospital, stressing its national significance in healthcare and education.

Speaking at the 59th Special Congregation of KNUST, the King acknowledged Parliament’s approval of budgetary allocations for the first phase of the project and expressed gratitude for the government’s support.

“When completed, this facility will not only serve as a center for advanced medical training and research but also provide vital healthcare services to communities nationwide,” he said. “We appeal that the timeline be respected so that the first phase can be commissioned by the close of 2026.”

The Asantehene also reiterated the need for financial clearance to recruit essential staff, highlighting the growing student population and the increasing demand for qualified lecturers, researchers, and administrative personnel.

“Strengthening human resource capacity is critical to maintaining the university’s high standards and advancing its national and global role,” he emphasised.

Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, encouraged staff to continue community engagement and urged graduates to translate knowledge into innovation, tackle global challenges, and embrace adaptability.

Dr. Cindy Jebb, President of Ramapo College, New Jersey, called for stronger global partnerships to address educational, health, and environmental challenges.

The congregation saw 8,377 students graduate, including 3,136 undergraduates and 5,241 postgraduates, with 71 PhD recipients.
