Wesley Grammar School appeals for government support to construct internal roads

Accra, March 11, – Mr Alexander Konadu, National President of the Wesley Grammar School Old Students Association, has called on the government to assist in constructing internal roads within the school campus.

He noted that the untarred roads had caused discomfort, particularly due to dust, and stressed that addressing the project urgently would improve the teaching and learning environment.

Mr Konadu made the appeal over the weekend during activities marking the school’s 70th anniversary in Accra.

He highlighted that various year groups had undertaken several projects, including the renovation of the main gate, the robotics centre, and the science and maths centre. They had also initiated the construction of a new dormitory for girls and requested support to complete it on schedule.

The Association planned several anniversary activities, including a homecoming, public lecture, bonfire, thanksgiving service, and the main ceremony, with participation from key government officials. Mr Konadu encouraged all alumni to actively engage in the programmes to ensure a successful celebration.

Mr Patrick Richard Okine, Lead Project Consultant for the anniversary, expressed concern over rising indiscipline in schools and urged stricter enforcement of rules to deter misconduct. He emphasised that Wesley Grammar School’s foundation in ethical values should guide students’ behaviour.

Madam Barbara Juliet Tekyiwaa Thompson, the Headmistress, commended alumni for the projects completed and ongoing, appealing to others to contribute toward enhancing learning outcomes.

Mr Michael Moi Buckman, Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, invited the public to attend the upcoming public lecture on education aimed at driving improvements.
