U.S. Showcases California Wines to Boost Trade with Ghana

Accra, March 24, – The United States Embassy in Ghana recently hosted a California Wine Trade Promotion Event aimed at enhancing agricultural commerce and strengthening bilateral trade relations.

The event brought together 10 California-based wineries seeking partnerships with Ghanaian importers, retailers, and hospitality operators. Over 100 wine varieties from renowned regions including Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Lodi, Monterey, Paso Robles, and Santa Barbara were showcased during the session.

Mr. Rolf Olson, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy, said the initiative was part of broader efforts by the United States to promote agricultural exports in Ghana while expanding economic cooperation. He noted that the event also coincided with celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.

He encouraged Ghanaian businesses to explore potential collaborations with American producers, emphasizing that the U.S. remains committed to supporting market access for its agricultural goods.

The programme was organised by the Wine Institute (California Wines) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). It represents the first major entry of California Wines into the Ghanaian market and forms part of a West African promotional tour, which also includes Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire.

The U.S. Meat Export Federation participated as well, reflecting ongoing collaboration with FAS to promote American agricultural commodities across the sub-region.
