Cape Coast, March 8, – A Level 200 Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has died after a road crash on the university’s campus.
The deceased, Caleb Kweku Mensah, reportedly sustained fatal injuries when the motorbike he was riding collided with an Ayalolo Bus Service bus on Thursday, March 5.
The accident occurred at about 1500 hours along the stretch between the Amissah-Arthur Language Centre and the Sandwich Lecture Theatre.
According to a statement issued by the University on Friday, the student had been riding to Oguaa Hall to collect his identification card ahead of a scheduled examination when the incident occurred.
The statement said Mr Mensah was rushed to the UCC Hospital, where medical staff attempted to revive him but he was later pronounced dead.
His body has since been deposited at the UCC Morgue pending further procedures.
The University said the incident had been reported to the University of Cape Coast Police and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service for investigation.
Management has also informed the family of the deceased and expressed sympathy to them.
“The University extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and urges members of the University community to remain calm as investigations continue,” the statement added.
