Accra, March 11, – The Parliamentary Minority has demanded that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, appear before the House to clarify reports of an alleged agreement allowing the United States to use Ghanaian territory for military operations targeting ISIS in northern Nigeria.
The call comes after the Minister reportedly made comments during a panel discussion at Chartan House in London, which the Minority described as raising serious national security concerns.
Addressing journalists at Parliament House, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and NPP MP for Damongo, said the Minority is concerned that such an arrangement, if true, could expose Ghanaian citizens to potential terrorist threats.
He stressed that any foreign military use of Ghanaian soil requires prior parliamentary approval under the Constitution, noting that the previous NPP administration had not entered into any such agreement.
The Minority also requested that the government outline specific measures being taken to protect Ghanaians in light of the alleged disclosure.
