McDan Aviation Payment Came After Contract Termination – GACL

Accra, March 17, – The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has clarified that McDan Aviation made a partial payment in February 2026 only after its contract had been lawfully terminated and the terminal at Kotoka International Airport had been closed.

GACL stated that the payment covered only half of the amounts owed. According to a statement issued by management, the contract was terminated on January 16, 2026, following several months of repeated demand notices for unpaid rent. McDan Aviation reportedly owed rent for the entire 2025 year, as well as $16,000 in rejected banknotes from a 2024 payment.

The company further explained that license fees for operating a private jet business had been unpaid for four years (2022–2026), in addition to outstanding rent and royalties.

“GACL has noted false allegations by McDan Aviation regarding the contract termination and eviction for non-payment,” the statement read. “All evidence, including post-dated cheques and demand notices, will be submitted to the courts.”

GACL emphasised that it respects judicial processes and will not debate the matter in the media. The company highlighted that it employs thousands of Ghanaians who rely on revenues such as the sums withheld by McDan Aviation.

The statement reinforced that while GACL engages positively with compliant business partners, it will pursue legal action against debtors who abuse the system.

Meanwhile, McDan Aviation disputes GACL’s claims, arguing that the contract termination was unjustified and that the facility’s closure disrupted its operations. The company maintains that it has met its payment obligations and is challenging GACL’s decision.
