Wenchi (Bono), March 1, – The Acting Wenchi Municipal Director of Health, Mr George Agyemang, has cautioned adolescents against engaging in unprotected sex and having multiple sexual partners, citing growing HIV infection rates in the municipality.
He also urged married couples to remain faithful to their partners and desist from extra-marital affairs to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.
Mr Agyemang gave the warning during the 2026 annual review meeting of the Municipal Health Directorate held in Wenchi under the theme: “Stakeholder’s engagement and efforts in achieving universal health coverage.”
According to him, 2,153 persons are currently living with HIV and AIDS in the municipality, with the local prevalence rate at 2.5 per cent — one of the highest in the Bono Region.
He stressed that HIV does not discriminate and warned that individuals who indulge in promiscuous behaviour increase their vulnerability to infection. He advised those unable to abstain from sexual activity to consistently use condoms as a protective measure.
